DISTRICT STATISTICAL OFFICE (KARNAL)

ACTIVITIES AND ACHIEVEMENTS

District Statistical Office, coordinates the statistical activities of different offices, to prevent duplication and to serve as a stone house for statistical information. Statistical data collected by District Statistical Office are published in their publications. The functions and activities of District Statistical Office, Karnal are stated below:-

1. Collect, Compile and analysis various types of statistical data relating to various Socio-Economic aspects.
2. Serves as a stone house for all types of statistical data needed for planning and formulation of development programme.
3. Conducts surveys relating to various Socio-Economic problems of the district and undertakes evaluation studies on selected projects.

District Statistical Abstract

This is an important publication containing useful information for taking policy decisions, formulation of development plans and undertaking research work. Annual series up to 2002-2003 are available. Next series will be due in May,2005.

District Socio-Economic Review

District Socio- Economic Review is another yearly publication. DSER for year 2002-2003 has already been sent to Head Office in may 2004.

Farm Account & Family Budget Survey

This office studies 'Economics of forming' and Family Budgets of selected cultivators'. For this purpose 12  farm account and 6 of family Budget registers have been installed . The inspection of all the holdings is being done regularly.

State Income

To prepare the Estimates of state income and per capita income, this office collects information from 48 offices & sends to Head Office. The information for the year 2002-2003  has already been sent to H.Q.

Capital Formation Estimates

For this purpose, this office collects information from 60 offices and sends to Head office for studying increase or decrease in capital formation.

Index of Industrial Production

The information related to Index of Industrial production is being collected regularly on monthly basis from 45 units . The collected information from all the units has been sent to Head Office.

National Sample Survey

National Sample Surveys generally cover information on Land utilization, consumption, employment, consumption of agricultural commodities. These surveys are conducted in rounds generally of one year's duration. 61^th round is in progress since july,2004.

Municipal Statistical book

This is also an annual publication. Series up to 2002-2003 has been sent to Head office in May 2004. Next series will be due in may 2005.

Budgets of village Panchayats, Panchayat Samities, Municipalities

Budgets of all Gram-Panchayats, Panchayat Samities and M.C.s are being collected, checked and sent to head office.

Staff Census

To know about the position of staff employed in Govt. offices as on 31st March, 2001 of each year data is being collected, scrutinised and feeded on computer. Detailed & complete report along with floppy is being sent to head office annually.

Wholesale and Retail Trade

Data in respect of wholesale and retail trade is collected from the quarterly returns being submitted by registered dealers to excise and taxation office in the district. Compiled report is being sent to Head Office.

20 Point Programme 

Monthly review of the progress of work done under this programme being reviewed by the Deputy Commissioner Karnal in monthly meeting and compiled report is being sent to financial commissioner 20 Point programme.
